Greetings from Greece!
Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 05:12:01 AM PDT
I'm writing from a cafe in the Plaka of Athens that has wireless internet available (6 euros for 2 hours, yikes!!). Why am I online instead of out and enjoying Greece for the few short days I have left here?
Well, I talked to my husband this morning (midnight CDST) and he told me the news about Bush commuting Libby's sentence. That he discussed the issue with me is big, because my husband doesn't not follow politics. At all. Even he is outraged.
I have nothing to add from here about the Libby case. Instead I'd like to discuss Global Warming and the evidence I've seen these last 2 weeks I've been here in Greece.
Geography! Geographic education
Sat Jun 16, 2007 at 07:16:11 AM PDT
Welcome to the second diary in the new Geography! series. This week the topic is geographic education and I continue the discussion about the article "Bring Back Geography!" which describes the current state of geography education in the United States.
The main points I cover today include 1) the state of geography education in primary and secondary schools (including the effect of NCLB), 2) the state of geography education in colleges and universities in the United States, and 3) some ways we can help reintegrate geography education.
Note – I leave for Greece on Monday for two weeks. I plan to continue posting while I am gone, but will not be able to comment much. If I can't post the next diary in this series, I will at least post pictures so you can all see what I have to endure in Greece. =)
Geography! Why geography is important
Sat Jun 09, 2007 at 12:37:35 AM PDT
Last night I received my copy of the Spring issue of ArcNews, a newsletter published by ESRI which includes news and applications of ESRI’s Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
A substantial part of the newsletter (3 of 42 pages total) is dedicated to an article entitled "Bring Back Geography!" by Jerome E. Dobson, president of the American Geographical Society. After a few paragraphs, I decided to write a diary about the article. After reading the entire article, I decided to take up the challenge laid out by the author to disseminate knowledge about geography here at dailyKos.
Today’s diary has three purposes. 1. To begin discussion of Dobson’s article and why "Bring Back Geography!" inspired me to 2. begin a weekly series discussing geography and 3. my qualifications for this topic.

How I Spent NFL Week
Sat Mar 10, 2007 at 08:31:11 AM PDT
This is not a diary about football. If football is what you are looking for, then you will be disappointed.
No, I am writing about how I have celebrated National Foreign Languages Week this week, and why more Americans should experience other cultures.
